Words of Life

Rabbi Albert Lewis says, “Nothing haunts like the things we don’t say.”  Or, as John Greenleaf Whittier wrote, “Of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these: ‘It might have been.’”  Or, Paul (Ephesians 4:29), “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”

My mouth can create a lot lf trouble – or it can do a lot of good… which depends upon me and my choice to obey God or to follow my own selfish impulses!  God, of course, desires that I do the “lot of good”.  Others will benefit and life will be enriched!

So what am I waiting for?  Family, friends, congregants, strangers – there are so many who need a word of encouragement, a word of Grace, a word of Life!

So then, off with you, into this day – this life – and speak that word!  Forget the nonsense, the divisive, the discouraging and speak Life!  Everywhere!  To everyone!  For this, too, is a tangible expression of faith!

P.S. – “Nothings haunts like the things we don’t say” …except for the things we do say!  Amen!
