My Folly and God's Goodness

You are so good to me – in so many ways, but most of all You keep showing up (in spite of my “spotty” performance).  You are faithful; You come to me, a thousand times a day… even when I am not coming to You, even when I am hostile!

Proverbs 19:3 nails it, “A man’s own folly ruins his life, yet his heart rages against the Lord.”  Amen!  How many times, in how many ways, have I blamed You for the fruit of my own stupidity and/or willfulness?  How often have I chided You for not superseding my own “bone-headed” decisions?  How many times has my arrogance or apathy taken me out of Your Presence and out of Your Will?  There is an unfortunate pattern here!

I would tire of me.  More than that, I would resent me and never care to see or hear from me again!  But You… You don’t retaliate, You don’t excommunicate, You don’t exterminate; You pursue me and seek reconciliation, though You have done no wrong!

What would our world look like if we genuinely attempted to copy Your behavior and imitate Your passion?  What would my life look like?  In a word: beautiful!

Two things I/we desperately need today (and every day):

1)     To accept Your Love for me – undeserved though it is.

2)     To show Your Love to others – underserved though it may be.
